ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE Introduction:

Robotics;Notes, developed by 5pb, is a visual novel video game that belongs to the Science Adventure series, following Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate. This installment is referred to as an "Augmented Science Adventure" by its creators. The game initially launched in Japan in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. An enhanced version, Robotics;Notes Elite, became available for PlayStation Vita in 2014 and later for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2019. Spike Chunsoft released an English version of Robotics;Notes Elite for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 in 2020.

The franchise extends to six manga adaptations and an anime produced by Production I.G, which aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina slot from October 2012 to March 2013. Funimation holds the North American license for the anime. A sequel to the game, titled Robotics;Notes DaSH, was launched in 2019.

Gameplay:

Robotics;Notes offers a science fiction narrative where players engage with multiple characters, particularly Kaito Yashio. Gameplay involves limited interaction, as most of the experience revolves around reading textual content that unfolds the story and dialogues. 3D animated character models and background art accompany the text, providing context. The game incorporates CG artwork at specific story points, replacing the background art and character models. Unlike prior Science Adventure series entries, Robotics;Notes maintains an almost entirely linear narrative, divided into twelve chapters termed as 'phases'. Players can opt to skip certain phases based on decisions made during the game.

As the narrative follows Kaito, players can activate the PokeCom Trigger, which replaces the Phone Trigger system from Steins;Gate. This feature lets players use applications on Kaito's tablet computer, including Deluoode Map for mapping, Twipo for social networking resembling Twitter, and Iru-o for augmented reality image recognition.

Robotics;Notes casts players as Kaito Yashio, an enthusiast of fighting games, who participates in his school's robot club with childhood friend Akiho Senomiya. The story commences as Akiho decides to construct a robot inspired by her favorite animated series, Gunvarrel, and recruits Kaito's assistance. The club, struggling with low membership, embarks on recruiting more members, enlisting professional robot battler Subaru Hidaka, karate practitioner Junna Daitoku, and renowned programmer Frau Kojiro. Their project involves building replicas of Gunvarrel, named Gunbuild-1 and Gunbuild-2, with the aid of the Iru-O system for augmented reality alterations.

Amid Gunbuild-1's development, Kaito discovers the "Kimijima Reports," written by deceased scientist Kō Kimijima, predicting a catastrophic solar flare. Kaito interacts with AI personalities Airi and Sister Centipede via Iru-O, unraveling the reports. Pursuing the instructions within the reports, Kaito aims to prevent the solar flare and revives Airi Yukifune from suspended animation. However, Kaito realizes too late that the reports are a ruse; Kimijima, now an AI within Iru-O, plans a solar flare-triggering "Project Atum" for the Committee of 300.

Final Words:

Kimijima progresses by seizing control of Akiho's sister Misaki, piloting an experimental battle robot named SUMERAGI, and obliterating Gunbuild-2. Simultaneously, the Committee of 300 orchestrates widespread robot rebellions, inducing chaos throughout Japan. The robotics club partners with Nae Tennouji and Toshiyuki Sawada, members of a covert resistance group opposing the Committee. The Committee intends to launch a rocket from Tanegashima, laden with bombs to create an apocalyptic solar flare, facilitating their dominance over survivors.

With Sawada's assistance, the robotics club enhances Gunbuild-1 into Super Gunbuild-1 and confronts SUMERAGI. Kaito defeats Misaki, eradicating Kimijima. Although Kimijima claims another copy of himself will emerge, the team stops the Committee's rocket launch through Nae's intervention, averting disaster. Tanegashima residents hail the robotics club as heroes.

Shikura spearheaded Robotics;Notes' concept, joined by scenario writer Naotaka Hayashi and producer Tatsuya Matsubara. Character designs were crafted by Tomonori Fukuda, and Makoto Ishiwata handled mechanical designs. Takeshi Abo composed the game's music. Development received support from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, enhancing the game's scientific accuracy. Nitroplus also contributed to the project. Robotics;Notes boasts 3D visuals, aiming for high-quality models akin to Catherine and Idolmaster 2. The game is labeled an "Augmented Science Adventure."

Announced via 5pb.'s website in December 2010, Robotics;Notes is the third Science Adventure series entry after Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate. Initially released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June 2012, it later arrived on PlayStation Vita in 2014 as Robotics;Notes Elite, featuring additional content. Subsequent releases included Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions in 2019, bundled with the sequel Robotics;Notes DaSH.
